February 8, 2014 — TThe Concord-Carlisle Community Chest, which annually supports approximately 30 human services organizations that aid residents of Concord and Carlisle, announced that it has named Karen Bechtel as its new executive director.

She succeeds Astrid Williams, executive director of the Concord-Carlisle Community Chest for the last 16 years, who recently retired.

Bechtel is responsible for the operation, growth, and development of the organization, responsible for fundraising, maintaining agency relationships, community outreach, and administration.

“Karen brings to the Community Chest extensive experience in marketing communications and business management and a passion for working with great people to support those in need,” said Amanda Young Hickman, board president. “The board is very enthusiastic about Karen’s skill, experience, and style, and looks forward to her leadership in the next chapter of our 67-year history of serving the residents of Concord and Carlisle.”

Bechtel, an overseer at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, joined the Community Chest from Lovelane Special Needs Horseback Riding Program, a Lincoln nonprofit where she managed daily business operations and participated in strategic planning. Prior to joining Lovelane, she was manager of marketing communications at National Grid.

“I greatly look forward to getting to know the Community Chest’s donors, Board, Overseers, community leaders and particularly those who lead the agencies we fund, who do so much good in this community, every day,” said Bechtel. “It is an honor to be a part of an organization and community that has such a long and consistent track record of community support. I look forward to continuing that good work.”

Founded in 1947, the Community Chest today distributes more than $500,000 each year, raised through its annual campaign. The nonprofit recently completed a five-year strategic plan and implemented a planned giving program to help ensure its long-term financial stability.
