Gr. Lowell Comm. Foundation Grants $131K to 16 Nonprofits

February 5, 2018 — The Greater Lowell Community Foundation recently announced it awarded $131,500 to 16 nonprofit organizations in the region that serve a range of services, including those focused on youth, housing, the arts, food security, and the environment.

“The need is great with requests totaling nearly $400,000 in funds this year. There is no doubt that work being done by these organizations is strengthening our community. The Community Foundation continues to work with donors to fund the good work of these organizations,” said Greater Lowell Community Foundation and CEO Jay Linnehan.

Receiving the grants were the following:

  • Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell $10,000 for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention

  • Challenge Unlimited, $15,000 for Equine Encounter–a Path to Recovery

  • Community Teamwork for the African Parent and School Engagement Project, $5,000

  • The Discovery Museum, $5,000 for Discovery Science: Greater Lowell

  • Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell, $5,500 for critical home repairs for the elderly

  • Lowell Association for the Blind, $5,500 for an iPad Training Program

  • Lowell House $15,000 for Creating an Effective Workforce to battle the opioid crisis in Lowell

  • Merrimack Valley Food Bank, $5,500 for Mobile Pantry

  • Merrimack Valley Project $15,000 for the Addiction & Criminal Justice Committee

  • Mill City Grows, $5,500 for increasing older residents’ access to healthy foods

  • Nashua River Watershed Association, $5,000 for engaging citizen scientists to protect our waterways

  • The Nature Connection, $5,500 for Therapeutic Programs for Elders

  • New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, $5,000 for Training Beginning Farmers on soil building and organic crop production practices in compromised watersheds

  • Northeast Legal Aid $15,000 for the Caretakers of Children at Risk Project

  • Power of Flowers Project, $5,500 for the Kindness Connections Program

  • Sibling Connections, $5,000 for Sibling Sundays Lowell
