Walker Annual Golf Tournament Beats Goal to Raise $150K
November 20, 2015 Walker, a Needham nonprofit that provides educational and therapeutic programs to children with complex emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges, announced that its recent golf tournament raised $150,000, surpassing its goal.
The 26th Annual Fore the Children Golf Tournament, held last month at the Dedham Country and Polo Club, drawing 108 golfers, sought to raise $142,000.
Helping to boost the total raised were additional opportunities for players to boost their donations through an expanded auction and a discount pre-play package that included raffle tickets and mulligan passes.
We also made special efforts to share stories of the children and youth that the funds would be going toward, and tied the live sponsorship amounts directly back to specific purchases that would benefit the children as a result of their donation, said Susan Getman, president and CEO of Walker
Walkers signature events, which include the Fore the Children Golf Tournament, Change Shoes, Change Lives 5K, Lives in Bloom Gala, and the Walker Wishes Holiday Toy Drive, represent approximately 25% of its annual fundraising.
Traditional sponsorship opportunities were made available in the months leading up to the event at levels including signature, gold sponsors, sponsors, bronze, and corporate foursome sponsorships.
Depending on the level, sponsors received a combination of foursomes, a program book advertising page, a program book listing as driving range, putting, or dinner sponsor, a corporate banner at tournament, event signs, public acknowledgment at the event, a company tee sign, and acknowledgement on the event website and in press coverage.
The post-golf celebration included a silent auction filled with 20 donated items including football, hockey, and baseball tickets, spa experiences, shopping excursions, autographed sports memorabilia, dining parties and golf packages. Golfers also joined in a raffle for items ranging from ski lift tickets to gym memberships, dining experiences, and live performances.
Live sponsorship opportunities were presented following dinner, with players opting to support Walkers Annual Fund with sponsorships ranging from $1,000 to $100.
During the game, players had the opportunity to compete in a ball-drop competition, as well as purchase up to two no-fault mulligans to use at any time on the field. On the green, golfers competed in closest-to-the-pin and longest drive contests, and a hole-in-one challenge that had participants shooting for donated items, including a 1995 Mercedes Benz E320 cabriolet, Callaway Irons, a LCD flat-screen TV, or domestic roundtrip airfare for two.
During the awards ceremony, live sponsorship opportunities were presented, with players opting to support Walkers Annual Fund as a $1,000 Camping Sponsor, $500 Outdoor Adventure Sponsor, $250 Athletic Instruction Sponsor, or $100 Sports Equipment Sponsor.
For the past eight years, Copley Motorcars was the hole-in-one sponsor and provided a luxury antique sports car as the signature prize. Other leading sponsors included Intex Solutions, Inc. and The Thorndike Family, Bank of America, United Benefit Services, and Walmart.
Founded in 1961, Walker serves nearly 20,000 children and youth each year throughout Greater Boston, the North and South Shores, and central Massachusetts at campuses in Needham and Watertown, community-based clinical and youth development services, professional seminars, consultations, and public schools.
