Citi Performing Arts Center Gets $200K to Keep ArtWeek Going

May 8, 2015 — Citi Performing Arts Center, a Boston nonprofit that operates three major downtown theaters and sponsors ArtWeek Boston, recently announced that Highland Street Foundation has committed $200,000 to continue its title sponsorship of the twice-a-year creative initiative through Spring 2017.

Now running through May 10, offering 125 creative events throughout 45 neighborhoods and towns of Greater Boston, ArtWeek was launched in Fall 2013. Another similar event is scheduled for Sept. 25 – Oct.4.

Blake Jordan, executive director of Highland Street Foundation, said, “We were involved with ArtWeek from the beginning, and we are proud of its growth and impact on the greater Boston community. It’s easy to support an initiative such as ArtWeek that makes art in many different forms accessible to people of all ages, and to give people a chance to try something they may not otherwise experience.”

Highland Street became the title sponsor to help launch ArtWeek with $200,000 in funding over two years. The latest $200,000 in funding from Highland Street will cover ArtWeeks scheduled through Spring 2017.

The funding is primarily used to secure media partnerships with print, digital, television, radio, outdoor, and transit media partners, who then extend the overall reach of the ArtWeek advertising campaign to a wider audience of readers and viewers with additional bonus support.

Supplementing this effort is in-house public relations and social media outreach, an ArtWeek website with individual event pages, promotional and tourism outreach campaigns, and other materials to help drive the community to “take art into their own hands” and participate in ArtWeek events.

An ArtWeek spokesperson said the “hard” costs per ArtWeek is $125,000, which includes the marketing campaign, program administration, special events, and other related expenses, “but because of the generosity of our partners and collaborators, we estimate that the advertising support alone is valued at $250,000-$300,000 per ArtWeek.”

Citing the Foundation as a “tremendous partner,” Joe Spaulding, CEO and president of Citi Performing Arts Center, said, I’m happy to say ArtWeek has exceeded expectations, and delighted that this achievement has been recognized with their ongoing support.”

Other ArtWeek sponsors, offering in-kind support, include: WCVB-TV, Boston.com, Boston Metro, the Improper Bostonian, and Greater Media (including radio stations Magic 106.7, Country 102.5, HOT 96.9. 92.9 WBOS, and WROR 105.7), Titan Cares, Orange Barrel Media, and CMT Taxi Media.

Other supporters include the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, FluidReview, W Boston Hotel, Long Haul Films, and CO Everywhere.
