North Shore United Way Grants $1Million to 22 Area Nonprofits

June 6, 2011 — North Shore United Way recently awarded nearly $1 million in community impact grants to 22 nonprofits that seek to address financial stability, affordable housing, health care, child and youth development in schools, teen and child care centers, and basic needs.

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to invest nearly one million into local programs that support the critical building blocks of our North Shore communities,” said North Shore United Way Executive Director Margo Casey. “The measure of the North Shore United Way ultimately is not just in the fundraising campaign, but in the ways we come together as a community with our resources, expertise and passion to create opportunities for all.”

Programs funded with the 2011 North Shore United Way grant awards include the following:
  • American Red Cross, Northeast Division – Disaster assistance
  • Beverly Children’s Learning Center – Happy, Healthy, Fit Kids
  • Beverly Bootstraps Community Services – Outreach services; earned income tax credit
  • CAB Health & Recovery/Health & Education Services – Student assistance programs in Beverly, Hamilton-Wenham, Ipswich, Gloucester, Manchester-Essex and Rockport schools
  • Catholic Charities North – Basic needs
  • Cerebral Palsy Association – Adult Vocational Work program
  • Children’s Friend & Family Services – Child & Family Counseling; Mentoring Program
  • Girl Scouts – Leadership Development Experience
  • HAWC – Cape Ann Outreach program
  • Health Quarters – Cervical cancer screening
  • Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center – S.A.F.E. studio, Gloucester & Ipswich sites
  • Northeast Arc – Recreational programs; advocacy; volunteer support
  • North Shore Health Project – Wellness program
  • NS Community Development Coalition – Affordable housing & community development
  • The Open Door – Food pantry; meals program; Mobile Market
  • Pathways for Children – School lunch program; services to children with special needs
  • Salvation Army, Beverly – Emergency Assistance
  • Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Beverly – Emergency & family assistance
  • Strongest Link AIDS Services – HIV/AIDS case management
  • VNA Care Network & Hospice – Care for the underserved
  • Wellspring House – Adult education
  • YMCA of the North Shore – Low income scholarships; Beverly, Rockport and Cape Ann youth & teen centers
